When and How to Use
The sensitivity, comprehensiveness and speed of the xTAG RVP panel give it many applications in clinical practice, including:
- As an alternative to a rapid test
- As a complement to a rapid test:
- If rapid test was negative, it could be a false negative or a different virus
- If rapid test was positive, there could still be co-infection, and false positives with rapid tests do occur.
- At hospital admission (ideally as part of the standard protocol) for inpatients with fever of unknown origin and/or respiratory symptoms
- As an aid in the detection of 2009 Influenza A/H1N1
- For identifying and containing outbreaks in a hospital or long-term care facility
- In immunocompromised or immunosuppressed patients with fever and/or respiratory symptoms
- For public health surveillance
