Keep your family healthy by
preventing flu with these tips
So, what, exactly, is the flu?
Although there’s no 100% sure-fire way to protect yourself or loved ones from the flu, you want to do whatever you can to reduce your risk. The following recommendations are adapted from advice given by the US Department of Health and Human Services on its flu.gov web site.
If you’re healthy – try to stay healthy!
- Get your flu shot every year
- Make sure that your other immunizations – and your family’s – are up to date
- Eat a balanced diet with a variety of healthy foods, including plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grain products, and lean sources of protein
- Exercise regularly
- Get enough sleep
If you’re sick – stop the spread of germs.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water
- If you have to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue. Throw out your used tissues immediately after using
- If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve
- Clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer after coughing or sneezing
- Stay home and limit your contact with other people
